Above Fair Play, this winery is at an average elevation of 2,500 feet, and has an interesting climate and terroir that has brought it critical acclaim. The owner Dieter Juergens has focused on severe vineyard management and has chosen the best clones for each block on the estate, everything is world class and it shows in the wine. This value priced Zin very much out performs in this price range and I couldn’t help but pour a second, and third glasses! The nose is earthy and has wild-berry, briar and fresh picked raspberry notes with just a hint of oak, and the palate is ripe, but has pure Zinfandel flavors that are more vivid and tangy than most from this region. There is some fresh acidity that holds everything in check and there are no off putting raisin or prune flavors, just bright and rich dark berries and spicy side notes. I would put this wine up there with Ridge in quality and style. This is a nice wine, and they also do a more serious version and some great Syrah and Petite Sirah too. ($14 Est.) 90 Points, grapelive
