2009 Dos Lagos Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon Estate, Atlas Peak, Napa Valley.
For the third vintage in a row, I’m left amazed by the stunning quality and richness on the Dos Lagos, in fact the 2009 is my favorite of the lot. Tom and Marcie Dinkel’s striking Cabernet Sauvignon is made by the famed Robert Foley, formerly of Pride and of course his own label, and he is showing why he is one of Napa’s best with this 2009. The latest Dos Lagos is darkly intense with powerful fruit, but with supple tannins, lively balance and a long finish, the wine is framed by french oak which adds to the over all pleasure. A perfume of spring flowers, spice, smoke and liqueur seduce you into the expansive full bodied palate. The 2009 is vivid with currant, blackberry, cherry, cassis, plum and boysenberry fruits unfolding in thick layers while cedar, melted black licorice, tobacco leaf, black olives, espresso and mineral notes all add to the complexity. This tiny 4 acre vineyard sits at about 1,600 feet, and is on “Tuff” volcanic soils, all of which adds to the unique character in this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
