2008 Alvear, Pedro Ximénez de Añada, Montilla-Moriles, Sweet Sherry Style Dessert Wine, Spain. (375ml Half Bottle)
Sherry and sherry style wines never get enough attention, but Alvear makes some of the best in Spain and deserves accolades for all their beautiful wines, especially this stunning Pedro Ximenez that is pure nectar of the gods. I will admit that while I really enjoy just sipping this pretty wine, I absolutely adore it over vanilla ice cream and highly recommend it. Alvear’s Pedro Ximénez de Añada, Montilla-Moriles is fine detailed with golden raisins, fig, molasses, orange rind, dried apricots and candied pecans with a balanced level of honeyed sweetness and oxidation going with a touch of saline and acidity. Alvear also makes wonderful nutty dry styles as well and fresh Fino, but the sweet Pedro Ximenez Alvear wines are without question among the world’s best and great values.
