2009 Ridge Vineyards, Zinfandel “York Creek” Spring Mountain District, Napa Valley.
This Zinfandel is tasting great right now, from this historic old vine site at the top of Spring Mountain, a long time favorite fruit source from Ridge’s early days the 2009 York Creek is wonderfully textured and easy to love with pure Zin briar and bramble, spicy fruit and full mouth feel. A mix of red and black fruits burst to life on the palate with Olallieberry pie filling, zesty raspberry and plum along with hints of sage, dried currants and sweet herbs. The 7% Petite Sirah adds a touch of coco, tannin and color to this tasty wine without taking away from the joyous Zin fruit and spice, very deft winemaking make the 2009 York Creek a winner. Always a rather late release, the York Creek wines sometimes get overlooked by the public, but this is one you want to find with out a doubt a great vintage for this wine. A visit to Ridge always brings a wealth entertainment, beautiful surroundings and great people, and I also find something new to love every time I drop in, it is a must see if you get that way, I never tire of the wines and I most often learn a few things too.
