2010 Rochioli, Pinot Noir Estate Grown, Russian River Valley.
I’ve enjoyed and written about this 2010 Rochioli Pinot a few times this year, but I thought it was worth a new look, as it has really started to fill out and turned a bit richer and is showing the oak more than it had done. This is still a beautiful and textured wine, though it is going through a different stage and has lost some acidity and is slightly closed down, so I think if you have this one, you might want to wait a little longer and let it come around again, most likely it will pop back to it’s best in a another year or so. That is not to say it isn’t enjoyable, in fact it was great last night with some spicy Chinese food and was silky smooth with nice round flavors and a lengthy finish that highlighted the toast sweet oak notes, with a touch of vanilla and mocha. The main core is black cherry fruit and it shows some raspberry, plum and subtle mineral notes. Rochioli continues to be a top estate, and their wines always hit the mark and deliver the goods.
