2010 Domaine Eden, Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains.
The second label of the classic Mount Eden winery, Domaine Eden is from vines in the Saratoga gap and the 2010 Pinot is made from a mix of cuttings with clones like Swan, Mount Eden, Calera and modern types like the 667 and 777. I found this beautiful and interesting Pinot Noir irresistible and elegant in style with under 14% alcohol and silky texture it is a top value wine in it’s class. With a nose of dried flowers, earthy loam, mineral and red fruits this wine is seductive from start to finish with a lovely palate of red currants, black cherry, plum and mixed berry fruits, truffle, violets and cranberry tanginess. This Pinot drives with smooth balance, subtle oak notes and acidity that lifts the fruit and holds your attention. Hints of spice, tea and wild strawberry linger on the finish, all in all a terrific wine that never makes a wrong step, look for it.
