2006ConternoFavot2006 Poderi Aldo Conterno “Il Favot” Langhe Nebbiolo DOC, Piedmonte, Italy.
Just by chance I noticed this bottle open at a friend’s, it is so nice to have enthusiast friends, and was grateful to have a sample, and even though it had been open close to three days it was gorgeous and pure showing it’s class and structure. My friend said it seemed a bit fruity when opened, but this was not short of classic stuff in my glass. This poor man’s Barolo is alive with sweet herbs, iodine, licorice and hosin sauce complexities behind a core of cherry, baked plum and strawberry fruit layers with hints of truffle, cedar and chalky minerals. The 2006 Il Favot is a gripping and serious Nebbiolo that when open, like I had it, shows loads of charm and character and the finish (and bouquet) lingers with dried roses and lavender oil, even better still it is great with food, especially lamb! Again, I’m very grateful to have experienced this lovely wine.
