2006 Green & Red Zinfandel Chiles Mill Vineyard, Napa Valley
Don’t miss this lush and elegant Zinfandel, it is a delight and shows the best traditional flavors and style of Zin. This wine has plenty of fruit, but is not over done or flabby, with bright boysenberry, raspberry and bramble spices that lead to some pretty currant and dark cherry fruits. This is a Zin for sure, though it has a Bordeaux class and balance. With touches of mineral, lavender, vanilla and pepper this wine has nice depth and complexities to savor. Green & Red have long been making world class wines and their Zinfandels are fantastic and always rate as great values as well. This Zinfandel should age really well with the acidity and structure it has, though I do enjoy the youthful fruit and zesty spices it shows now. I would think in 3-5 years it would taste more subtle and impressively like a fine Bordeaux. So, I’m tempted to enjoy a few bottle now and put a few bottles away to age short term just to see how it all comes together. I brought this Zinfandel out and poured it for a group of friends and it was a real hit, even to a few non Zinfandel fans, showcasing this wines broad appeal and smooth nature. This is a wine that reminds me why I love Zinfandel and why we should drink more of it!
