2011 Aquila del Torre, Friulano “At” Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC, Italy.
100% Tocai Friulano from the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC region of Italy, in the Northeast corner of the country this wonderful organic wines is made by the Ciani family near a beautiful nature reserve on the Torre River, hence the name “Eagle of the Torre (River)” Aquila del Torre. This was my first experience with this wine, and I know it will not be my last, it is truly a fantastic white wine that shows intensity and stylish artisan class with pretty citrus and stone fruits leading the way in this mineral driven white that see no oak, only clean stainless steel that highlight the pure essences and brightness of flavors. There are green apple and peach notes that add to the lemon/lime and tangerine core while wet stones and tangy chalk play nicely off each other with a touch saltiness. The fruit is bursting with flavor and the crisp acidity keeps it very fresh and inviting, making for a super summer white and great with lots of different food choices, so don’t miss this exciting Friulano.
