2010 Pascal Marchand, Morey-St.-Denis “Clos des Ormes” Premier Cru, Red Burgundy, France.
This wonderfully focused and layered Burgundy is a marvel of pleasure and complexity, Pascal Machand certainly delivers the goods with his 2010 Premier Crus, especially with this 2010 Morey-St.-Denis “Clos des Ormes” Premier Cru. Deep, richly flavored and colored the Clos des Ormes has it all, with charm, beauty and elegance in spades and the length is very impressive for such a young wine. The nose is sexy and seductive with earthy spices, violets, dried roses and currant laced black fruits which leads to a palate of equally intriguing black cherry, plum and mixed berry fruits with mineral tones, smoke, truffle and wild herbs. The mouth feel is excellent and round, even with youthful brightness, and the tannins are super fine, while still firm making for a balanced and hedonistic Burgundy, and a wine that should gain further with a bit more cellar time. Drink 2015-2020, though I would be hard pressed to wait as this Pinot is delicious now.
